Dry Hair (cont.)

Hi people,

Okay so yesterday I tried the Egg Yolk Conditioner and I wanted to tell you guys what I though about it. This morning I rinsed out the cholesterol I had in my hair over night and then I started My Daily routine the way I do every morning! If anyone would like to know what my daily routine is just ready my earlier blog titled "Daily Curly Routine".

The first thing I noticed is that my hair felt really soft and it was also a bit shinier today...so I will continue to do this Egg Yolk Conditioner when needed! If anyone else tried it be sure to tell me what you think!

I feel like curls always need moisture none stop, so during the winter we have to condition more often and use thicker conditioners than we do in the summer...one conditioner that produces amazing results in adding moisture is Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Daily Treatment! If you have really thirsty curls try it out! I usually only use this product in the winter because it is very thick and heavy...but it works great and has a nice clean scent!

I also went hunting for the book called "Curly Girl" and I found it YAY!!!!!! So I'm going to start reading that and let you guys know if I learn anything good! We will definitely talk about it!

If any of you have already read Curly Girl, tell me what you got from it or what you think about it!

Until we meet again,

Dry Hair

Hello everyone...sorry I haven't talked to guys in a few days but I had to take time to enjoy the Holidays!

So during this time of year I notice that my curls become very dry, brittle feeling, hard, and even a bit scrunched up into smaller weird curls.

I have been dealing with this for the past 2 weeks, even though I do my Olive Oil treatment and deep conditioning I feel my hair still needs a bit more moisture during these colder seasons.

So today I decided to do something about this crazy hair. I decided to make an Egg Yolk Conditioner!

Items needed to make this Egg Yolk Conditioner are:
1 egg (2 if you have long hair)
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1 cup of warm water

I got the instructions to do this Egg Yolk Conditioner from http://www.ehow.com/how_2088996_egg-yolk-hair-conditioner.html So check it out if you are interested in trying this.

I put the egg yolk, olive oil, and warm water into a bowl and stirred it all up, Then I got into the shower and wet my hair all over. After wetting my hair in shower I poured half of the Egg Yolk Conditioner onto the top of my head (careful not to let it get in my face) and massaged it into my scalp, after that I poured some of it into my hands and made sure to cover all the ends of my hair. I rinsed it all out and applied a little cholesterol deep conditioner to my hair and tied it in a bun to leave it that way over night.

My hair is still wet right now so I'm not sure if there are any good results but I will definitely let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow and if my hair is any better. I hope to have a good report!

In the mean time I heard about something called the Curly Girl Method...it sounds very interesting to me especially since I am a "Curly Girl"!!! It's a book by Lorraine Massey called Curly Girl so I will be on the look out for this book and I will let you guys know what its all about!

Talk to you tomorrow,

Heat Damage to Hair

Heat can be very damaging to hair, it is best to limit the amount of heat you put in your hair and even better if you cut out heat all together!

Heat damage can come from Flat Irons, Curling Irons, Hair Dryers etc…

If you guys read my blog “Just Trying To be Comfortable in my Curls” you know I am not completely happy with my hair…so because of this I have an ugly habit of straightening my hair whenever I have something I consider important to do.

Things I consider important enough to straighten my hair:
*Going out
*Auditions
*Holidays
*Special Events
*Going on trips
*Winter Season

I straighten my hair pretty often in the Fall because I air dry my hair and I don’t want to get sick or walk outside with it wet. I keep telling myself I’m going to quit straightening my hair and I actually just went 2 months without straightening it but then BAM I got an audition that said I had to have straight hair with a loose curl (what are the odds) so I had to bust out the flat iron once again.

I know I have to stop putting heat in my hair because doing so causes damage, if you guys look at my pictures that I posted in my last blog “Do You Know Your Hair Type” you can see I have heat damage on the front of my hair (luckily its only in the front) but my hair will no longer curl there! I actually get urges to just cut off the straight parts in the front but who knows how that will turn out lol! I’m to scared to find out so I wont be cutting it anytime soon!

My main problem is that I love when my hair is straight, I feel most comfortable when my hair is straight…I don’t know if this feeling will ever go away but I hope that it does!

So since I have this problem with straightening my hair I make sure that I deep condition it once a week, I also do the Olive Oil Treatment once every 2 weeks and as far as heating products I use a ceramic flat iron which is supposed to not be as damaging and wont destroy your hair like
regular flat irons can.

Me with straight hair.

Do You Know Your Hair Type!

If you don’t, check out these websites I found pretty informative:

http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types

http://www.treasuredlocks.com/what-is-my-hair-type.html

Once you know your hair type you will learn what products to use for it!

I feel like I am a Type 3b/3c mixture because I have rather mixed hair types (My hair grows ringlets some places, s-curls in other places, and wavy…Talk about annoying right )

I have had a few Type 1 readers ask me if my routines will work for their hair as well and I definitely feel “Deep Conditioning” is great for all hair types…I wouldn’t recommend trying my “Daily Curly Routine" because Type 1 hair does not need Leave-in conditioner to weigh it down. I feel like The "Olive Oil Treatment" is good for all hair types!

I have learned so many things about my hair from trial and error so feel free to do the same guys…you can definitely try the Routines I have talked about and see how they work out for you! If you do decided to try any feel free to ask questions and please let me know how things turn out, I would love to hear from you!

Here are a few pictures that I took during my naturally curly journey…this is embarrassing to show but I want to guys to see my natural hair.

So as you can see from my pictures my curls are not consistant...this is why I said I have mixed textures of hair!

If you have questions keep them coming I love helping out in anyway I can! Talk to you later...have a good night!

Daily Curly Routine

On my last blog Deep Conditioning I told you guys I would talk to you about my Daily Curly Routine!

After Performing My "Deep Conditioning" Routine that I talked about on my last blog I start my daily curly routine!

Every morning before I leave the house I get up, take a shower and my hair routine begins there!

Items needed for this routine are: Conditioner, Leave in Conditioner, a Spray bottle filled with water and a hair clips (These are the actual products and items I use).

Daily Curly Hair Routine:
*Wet hair completely
*Put in a light conditioner, any conditioner you use is fine (I use Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner)
*Use fingers to comb through hair and detangle…I use my fingers instead of a comb because it prevents my curls from frizzing and keeps them defined.

*Rinse hair with cold or room temperature water (NOT HOT) cooler water closes the cuticle on your hair and makes it shiny and healthier looking!

*Ring hair out with your hands (I just grab, twist and squeeze it with my hands) DO NOT USE A TOWEL…using a towel to dry it causes frizz and curly hair needs lots of moisture which means leave the water in there ( just make sure your not dripping too much)
*I part my hair into 3 horizontal sections
*starting at the bottom put the top two sections into your hair clips
*With Spray bottle…spray your unclipped bottom section of hair with cold water

*Put a quarter size of Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner into your palm and rub palms together then rub through bottom section of hair (add more leave-in if needed) I only use my FINGERS to comb it through... NO COMB!!!

*Grab the middle section of hair, spray with water and put a quarter size of Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner into your palm and rub palms together then rub through middle section of hair ( add more leave-in if needed) again only use fingers to comb conditioner through hair

* Grab top and last section of hair, spray with water and put quarter size of Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner into your palm and rub palms together then rub through top section of hair ( add more leave in if needed) still only using fingers to comb conditioner through hair

*Add finishing touches to your hair style ( I usually just spary water all over and put a little more conditioner into my palms and scrunch all over

I let my hair air dry because it is better for your hair than heat, as hair dries I scrunch a little until dry and Wha La
I hope this is useful...I will talk to you guys tomorrow!

Deep Conditioning!

Hey guys, I’m back!!!

I just want to say that I decided to post this blog to talk to people that are as interested in hair as I am! When I decided to go on my natural hair journey I didn’t have anyone to talk to, I felt alone so I just want to share with you guys information that I would’ve loved to know while I was going through my journey and also just to help those of you who may not be going through the natural hair journey but are interested in maintaining or even getting shiny, healthy hair!

On my last blog I said that I was going to talk to you guys about Deep conditioning so here it goes!

It is VERY important that you deep condition your hair, but even more important IF:

*You dye or color your hair

*You relax your hair

*You straighten your hair

All of the reason stated above cause your hair to dry or to become brittle, so it is important to keep your hair moisturized and feeling loved ;)

For those of you that read my Olive Oil Treatment Blog…that is a form of deep conditioning but I also use a deep conditioner ONCE a week in addition to my Olive Oil Treatment I do once every two weeks!

My favorite is Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner (which I stated before) and although I don’t think Miss Jessie’s "Styling Products" are right for my hair their deep conditioner called Rapid Recovery is very good and is great for deep conditioning!!!! If you guys already have a favorite deep conditioner feel free to use that…it is perfectly fine as long as it’s a deep conditioner!

So my weekly routine is that I wash my hair ONCE a week with Mixed Chicks Shampoo, then deep condition it with Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner or Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Deep Conditioner ( I usually alternate between the two just because I have both, but you don’t have to alternate) After putting in deep conditioner I comb it through my hair with a wide tooth comb (wide tooth combs prevent breakage…especially with curly hair) then I place my famous shower cap on for 30 minutes again or I sometimes just put my hair in a bun with no shower cap and leave it in as I sleep until the next morning, then I rinse it out with cold water and then style as usual!

I hope this helps you guys but if you have any questions feel free to ask I would love to help you out if I can!!! Tomorrow I will talk to you guys about my daily routine and what products I use :)

Olive Oil Treatment for all Hair Types!

Hello my friends thanks for joining me again, I just want to let you guys know this is only my 2nd blog, I am brand new to blog world so go easy on me!

"Just Trying to be Comfortable in my Curls" was my first blog so you guys can check that out if you want a little background information on me! I just want to share the knowledge I have learned and experienced with you guys because as I was going through my natural hair journey I wanted know these things and it took me a while to learn so I thought I would help you guys out with the information I found extremely helpful to me! I hope you like it! :)

I would like to share a very important secret to having healthy hair...and this is very good for my curly girls because as you know our hair tends to dry out, especially after cold winters we need to take care of our hair. Olive Oil is a key ingredient to healthy hair and its great for the scalp which in turn will also produce healthy hair if it is taken care of!

Once every Two weeks I do a process that I call my Olive Oil Treatment.

Items you will need for this process are:

1. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (which you can get at the grocery store...any brand is fine)

2. A Plastic Shower Cap (I would use a disposable one because it will be very oily afterwards...if you don't want to go out and buy a disposable shower cap feel free to use a plastic grocery bag and just hold it tight with a hair tie....be sure not to cover your nose or mouth please...just your head ;))

Once you have these items you are ready to go! It only takes 8 easy steps! YOU GUYS READY??????? LETS GO!

Step 1 Rinse hair with warm water

Step 2 Warm olive oil in microwave DON'T make it hot just a little warm try 15 to 20 seconds ( please test to make sure it doesn't burn your scalp)

Step 3 Pour about a quarter size of olive oil into your palm and using your finger tips massage oil into scalp...you want to repeat this process until entire scalp has been massaged with oil.

Step 4 Make sure you saturate then ends of your hair with oil as well...be sure to get your ends covered good!

Step 5 Cover your hair with your shower cap or plastic grocery bag... if using a plastic grocery bag secure it by tying with a hair clip or hair tie( please remember to only cover your hair and not your face...don't want any suffocating people out there) :) its cuz i care guys

Step 6 Let oil remain covered for 30 minutes. You guys can go make dinner or watch t.v. while it sits OR you can get into a warm or hot shower and and let the steam heat your oil as you wait ( just don't remove the cap or bag if you do this)

Step 7 Remove cap or bag and rinse hair well (if in shower make sure not to slip)

Step 8 Shampoo hair and then style as usual

*TIP Olive oil is good for preventing brittle, dry damaged hair, its great for taking care of your ends as well as preventing hair loss if done regularly!

Let me know if you have any questions!

I cant wait until we talk again...next time I will tell you guys about how important it is to deep condition hair and the process I take for that!

Just trying to be comfortable in my CURLS!!!!

Hello beautiful people who decided to listen to what I have to say :)!!!!!

Okay so to the point...I have been wearing my natural curls for the past 2 years now and I still don't feel completely comfortable in them :( I'm sure most of you curly girls know how I feel! My curls are about a 3b or 3c i think and I can see a million others girls with curly hair and wonder why the heck mine doesn't look like theirs! I feel like I'm all alone in the world of curls and I have no one to talk to and so I decided to talk to you guys! I just want to know if I'm all alone in this feeling or if other people feel the way I do!

A little background information...I have had a relaxer in my hair for the past 10 years and I would usually get them twice a year, I decided to stop putting them in my hair in August 2006. I went through the phase of just trimming the ends every two weeks to try to get rid of the relaxed hair as my natural hair grew out and I did this for about a year and a half before I decided I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't take the curly hair with the straight ends it was driving me insane, all i wanted was to have my curls back...so one day I said enough was enough...lol! I woke up one morning February 2008 to be exact and I just grabbed my curls one by one and cut off all the straight ends...now I wouldn't suggest anyone else doing this because I ended up with hair so uneven its not even funny :)! After cutting all the straight ends off my hair was just below my ears (when all my life I have had hair to the middle of my back) so this was a really weird transition that was going to take some getting use to. I just told myself I was going to embrace my natural curls and learn to like the new found me...well let me tell you that still hasn't happened, I can say that I am a little more comfortable now that my hair is no longer ear length because it is now shoulder length but I'm still not feeling like my hair is where I want it to be!!!!!

My cousin told me about this product called Mixed Chicks back in Feb. 2008 and so I ordered it online! I have to say that this product was my life saver!!!!!! I absolutely love it!! I have tried everything under the sun on my curly hair even before I got the relaxer and nothing and has ever worked like Mixed Chicks! It really holds and defines my curls while leaving my hair soft and feeling great! The only thing that I have noticed with Mixed Chicks is that my curls seem to be smaller! So for now this is my number 1 product for until I find something better...if there is even anything better!

I have tried Miss Jessie curly pudding, meringue, stretch silkening, baby butter creme, and rapid recovery and they did nothing for my hair but make it feel greasy and like there was some sort of plastic film over it! Now maybe it's because I'm not using the products correctly but I tried using them several times with different amounts applied each time and still my hair feels tangled, greasy and like there is a film on top of it! Even after applying water to my hair I could still feel the film like product preventing water from seeping in! Not a good look guys! So I will never use this product again and its sad to say because I spent a ton of money on it!
